Project on "Training for the Yemeni Judiciary Component-Yemen Justice and Policing Programme- YJPP Project" (2010-2011)

ACRLI implemented a Project entitled "Training for the Yemeni Judiciary Component-Yemen Justice and Policing Programme- YJPP Project", which comes within a broader Yemen Justice and Policing Programme- YJPP implemented by GRM International (GRM).

The Project included developing a continuous legal education programme and building the capacity of a selected number of trainees from the Yemen judiciary, through the implementation of a series of training sessions on a number of topics where there is lack of key knowledge and skills. Accordingly, 150 judges and prosecutors were trained on the five identified training modules below:

  1. Fair Trial Principles
  2. Anti- Corruption and obstruction of Justice with a focus on Conflict Interests in Public Procurement
  3. Cyber crime
  4. Transnational Crimes with Focus on Money Laundering
  5. Terrorism

ACRLI successfully implemented the training sessions to five groups of Yemeni judges (each group was composed of 30 judges).The duration of each session was three days, held in Sana’a according to the schedule below:

First set of training sessions:

  • Training session on "Fair Trial Principles" was conducted by judge Waleed Akoum from 16 to25 October 2010;
  • Training session on "Anti-Corruption and obstruction of Justice with a focus on Conflict Interests in Public Procurement" was conducted by Dr. Diab Younes from 19 to 28 October 2010;
  • Training session on "Cybercrime" was conducted by Dr. Yassin El Shazly from 23 October 2010 to 01 November 2010;
  • Training session on "Transnational Crimes with Focus on Money Laundering" was conducted by Judge Suhair Harake from 26 October 2010 to 04 November 2010;
  • Training session on "Terrorism" was conducted by Dr. Ashraf Shams eldine from 29 October 2010 to 08 November 2010.

Second set of training sessions:

  • Training session on "Fair Trial Principles" was conducted by Judge Walid Akoum from 04 to 09 December 2010;
  • Training session on "Anti Corruption and obstruction of Justice with a focus on Conflict Interests in Public Procurement" was conducted by Dr. Diab Younes from 04 to 09 December 2010;
  • Training session on "Cybercrime" was conducted by Dr. Yassin El Shazly from 11 to 16 December 2010;
  • Training session on "Terrorism" was conducted by Dr. Ashraf Shams eldine from 11 to 16 December 2010;
  • Training session on "Transnational crimes with focus on money laundering" was conducted by Judge Suhair Harake from 18 to 23 December 2011.

The Project was implemented and managed by the Project Manager (PM) and supervised by the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA).

Additionally, The Project’s implementation was supported by a number of experts/trainers who were responsible for the elaboration of the training materials related to their respective topics under the guidance of the CTA and in close coordination with GRM.
