Projects
“Promoting the Rule of Law and Integrity in the Arab Countries- PRLI” (2005-2007)

A two-year project, entitled Promoting the Rule of Law and Integrity in the Arab Countries (hereinafter called “the Project”). Funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Programme on Governance in the Arab Region (POGAR) , the Project is implemented by two non-governmental organizations, the Beirut-based Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) and IFES, headquartered in Washington, DC.

The Project issued a series of reports in four pilot countries; Jordan, Morocco, Egypt and Lebanon, prepared by teams of Arab scholars and practitioners, on three key pillars of sustainable democratic systems;

Judiciary: in an effort to promote a good judiciary as the gateway to implementing sustainable reform in the various areas of good governance, ACRLI launched a series of activities aimed at integrating international standards and norms and conditioning them to fit the Arab region’s political, economic, social, cultural and legal environment.

Parliament: in an effort to promote an independent and representative parliament, ACRLI launched a series of activities aimed at integrating international standards and norms in relation to parliaments and public and public participation and conditioning them to fit the Arab region’s political, economic, social, cultural and legal environment.

Media: in an effort to promote the concept of freedom of expression and contribute to the strengthening of the competence, independence and integrity of the media in order to attain the rule of law, ACRLI launched a series of activities aimed at integrating international standards and norms and conditioning them to fit the Arab region’s political, economic, social, cultural and legal environment.
