Under the framework of the “Inclusive Democratic Participation: Enhancing Education, Engagement, and Oversight in Lebanon”, ACRLI held a consultative focus group discussion on 27 May 2025 aimed at sharing feedback and insights on the upcoming Legal Assessment Report: A Study on Lebanon’s Electoral System.
The session aimed to discuss and exchange views on key recommendations and preliminary findings of a comprehensive legal study being prepared by ACRLI. The study addresses several aspects of the electoral system, most notably: fair representation, the promotion of peaceful coexistence, and the reinforcement of the parliamentary democratic system.
The session was chaired by the former President of the Constitutional Council, Dr. Issam Sleiman, and was attended by several prominent figures, and facilitated by Dr. Ali Mourad. It was attended by several prominent figures, including: Former Minister of Interior and Municipalities Brigadier General Marwan Charbel, Member of Parliament Mr. Melhem Khalaf, Judge Nadim Abdel Malek, Dr. Elie Shalhoub, Dr. Elie Elia, Dr. Randa Marouni, Mr. Adnan Maliki, Dr. Rayan Assaf, and Mr. Said Sanadeqi.
The discussions were marked by depth and diversity, with participants sharing valuable insights based on their legal and constitutional expertise. Their contributions are expected to enhance the content of the study and refine its final recommendations, which are anticipated to form the basis for a future national dialogue on electoral system reform in Lebanon.
