Project "Towards Abolition of Discrimination Against Women (TADAWI)" (June 2013 – March 2014)

ACRLI is implementing a Project entitled "Towards Abolition of Discrimination Against Women (TADAWI)", in cooperation with Al-Amal organization, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The project aims to empower Iraqi women CSOs to challenge gender discrimination in Iraqi legislation. The main project outputs consist in enabling Iraqi women CSOs to 1) actively engage with their rights, ii) counteract law violations, and iii) launch dialogue with local policy makers.

To this intent, a legal assessment study will be conducted to measure the compliance of the Iraqi legislation with the related international legislation (namely CEDAW), and consequently propose reform recommendations that will be discussed during a national workshop.

The project also will seek to develop the local CSOs’ skills to be capable of lobbying efficiently for the implementation of the identified reform recommendations. Therefore, two ToTs will be organized in the light of the study’s findings in two specific areas (gender equality and violence against women), in addition to one ToT on training methods and three technical training sessions aiming to improve the CSOs’ technical skills to advocate for the implementation of the proposed recommendations.

A local coalition/network including Iraqi women NGOs along with key stakeholders will be created. Outreach Materials including an outreach workshop will be organized in order to ensure an awareness campaign for this project.
